François-Xavier Gagnon
François-Xavier is currently pursuing a research-based Master of Law at the Université de
Sherbrooke as part of a dual-degree program with the Master’s in Notarial Law at the
Université de Poitiers. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (2022) and a Master’s in Notarial Law (2024)
from the Université de Montréal, where he was awarded the Léonard Ovide Hétu Excellence
Prize, given to the top graduate in notarial law, as well as the Jacques Beaulne Scholarship from
the Chambre des notaires du Québec. Throughout his academic journey, François-Xavier has
worked as a research assistant and completed an internship in a notarial office.

Jordan Mayer
Jordan Mayer is a PhD candidate in law at Laval University and the University of Liège in Belgium,
as well as a student in the short program in ethics at the University of Québec in Rimouski.
His thesis project focuses on the concept of integrity and how public law employs it through the
emergence of independent oversight and control institutions, which form a public integrity system
(such as commissioners, ombudsmen, etc.). Public integrity refers to a normative system aimed at
regulating the conduct of public officeholders in the exercise of their duties to safeguard the common interest.

William Gabriel Rioux
William is a lawyer and a PhD candidate in Law at the Université de Montréal and the
École doctorale de droit de la Sorbonne. His research, supported by the Social Sciences
and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), focuses on business law,
specifically the issues surrounding the securities sector. As a member of both the
Quebec and the Paris Bar, William pursued his graduate studies at the Université de
Montréal (under the supervision of Professor Julie Biron) and at the University of
Toronto (under the supervision of the Honourable Anita Anand). In addition to
practicing at a national law firm in Montreal, William has also had the opportunity to
work as a law clerk within the federal judiciary.

Charles Breton-Demeule
Charles Breton-Demeule is a lawyer (Barreau du Québec, 2017) and PhD in Law candidate at Université Laval and ENS Paris-Saclay. After having worked as a lawyer for the Ville de Québec, Charles completed a master's degree in Law about municipal powers concerning neglected and derelict buildings. His work was published by Éditions Yvon Blais in 2020. Charles' PhD project focuses on cultural heritage law from a comparative perspective between Québec and France.

Shana Chaffai-Parent
Shana is a member of the Quebec Bar and graduated from Université Laval (LL.B., Dean's Honor Roll of the Faculty of Law). After a few years as a litigation lawyer in private practice at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Shana joined the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Law to complete her master's degree under the direction of Professor Catherine Piché. Her thesis addressed several issues regarding the use of expert evidence in civil proceedings (LL.M., Excellence Award).

Marc-Étienne O'Brien
Marc's research interests focus on the interaction between the enthusiastic internationalization of plea bargaining practices and the rise in executive power. His thesis, which he carries out jointly with University Laval and Université Toulouse 1 Capitole, aims to determine the extent to which extensive prosecutorial discretion is consistent with the effective preservation of voluntary guilty pleas, and thus with individual liberty, a fundamental value of criminal procedure.

M. Gabriel-Arnaud Berthold Gabriel-Arnaud holds a law degree from Laval University (LL. B., Dean's honor list, Faculty of Law) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa (J.D., Cum Laude). His primary field of interest being private law theory, he completed a master's degree in contract law at the University of Montreal, under the direction of professor Benoît Moore (LL. M., Exceptional honors, Dean's honor list, Faculty of Graduate Studies).

Ms. Pascale Cornut St. Pierre
Pascale is a doctoral student at Sciences Po Law School in Paris. She holds an integrated degree in civil law and common law (B.C.L./LL.B.) from McGill University (2013), as well as a B.A. (2007) and a M.A. (2009) in philosophy from the Université de Montréal. The excellence of her academic record has been recognized by numerous awards, including the Aimé Geoffrion Medal (for having finished second upon graduation in law) and the Montreal Bar Association Prize (highest standing in civil law). more
