Shana is a member of the Quebec Bar and graduated from Université Laval (LL.B., Dean’s Honor Roll of the Faculty of Law). After a few years as a litigation lawyer in private practice at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Shana joined the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Law to complete her master's degree under the direction of Professor Catherine Piché. Her thesis addressed several issues regarding the use of expert evidence in civil proceedings (LL.M., Excellence Award). Shana is interested in the problem of access to justice, and her researches concentrate on civil procedure and evidence law. She is completing her doctoral studies at the Université Paris 1 – Panthéon Sorbonne, in a cotutelle program with the Université de Montréal, under the supervision of Professors Loïc Cadiet in Paris and Catherine Piché in Montreal. Shana’s current researches focus on the reform of the Quebec Code of Civil Procedure, more specifically the duty of the parties to cooperate in the conduct of judicial proceedings.
Shana has been teaching private judicial law at the Université de Montréal’s undergraduate law program as a lecturer since 2017. She is an active member of the Accessing Law and Justice research project (ADAJ), in which she acts as student’s representative on the scientific council. She also acts as coordinator and researcher at the Class Actions Lab, and takes part in the activities of the Jean-Louis Baudouin Research Chair in Civil Law. She has given numerous conferences and published writings related to her research work. The excellence of her academic record has been recognized by many prizes and awards.
