Mr. Emmanuel Goulet

Emmanuel Goulet

Emmanuel received his law degree with great distinction and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Sherbrooke in 2008. He was awarded, on the recommendation of a committee chaired by the Secretary of the Faculty of Law and after consultation with the teaching staff, the Albert-Leblanc Medal. Emmanuel also received during his studies in law and administration many other prizes and awards in recognition of his academic excellence, the quality of his character and his involvement in academia.

During his law studies, Emmanuel worked as a research assistant to Professor Nathalie Vézina and teaching assistant in legal research. He also volunteered as ambassador of his study program to new students by participating in open houses and being editor of a blog.

Emmanuel is presently articling at the office of Fraser Milner Casgrain and will be admitted to the Quebec Bar in the summer of 2009.

As evidenced by his academic studies, Emmanuel has great interest in business law. During his studies for his Master's degree at the University of Cambridge, Emmanuel wishes to further his understanding in international commercial law and corporate governance in order to be able, at the end of this program, to provide businesses with relevant counsel for the consolidation and growth of their activities in a global perspective.

Studying at Cambridge was for me a rewarding experience, both on intellectual and human aspects. The master of law programme allowed me to give an international dimension to my knowledge in commercial law, which will certainly be of great use in my practice. The sharing of knowledge among students, who come from all around the world, helps to enrich the content of the courses, thus giving to certain legal concepts a different perspective.

Professors who taught me in Cambridge are all leading experts in their respective fields and this has been a privilege for me to learn from them. They never hesitate to engage in interesting discussions with their students and guide them in their learning. Several conferences to which are invited all university students are regularly held at Cambridge in the colleges and faculties, thereby extending our knowledge in areas other than law.

Cambridge is quite a charming town. The old colleges bordering the River Cam are of great architectural beauty and have beautiful gardens, making therefore the scene very poetic. The social activities being numerous, I had the chance to meet and make friendships with people from all around the world. I particularly enjoyed playing badminton in the college team, talk with students and fellows in the "Formal Halls" where everyone wears their gowns for the occasion, participate in activities organised by the clubs and societies in which I was a member, or stroll with friends on a "punt" on the River Cam. I am deeply grateful to the Canadian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies for giving me the privilege to live this unique experience.
